Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: Bringing communities 21st century transportation benefits.

NYPA offers electric vehicle charging station implementation and finance services to local and state government agencies. Many agencies have already utilized NYPA services to install EV charging stations for public charging, workplace charging for their employees or for those travelling long distances who need additional charging to complete their trip.

Municipalities can currently receive significant incentives from the NYS DEC to install public charging stations. By installing electric vehicle charging stations, municipalities are able to attract residents and visitors to their downtown commercial district, while improving local air quality and reducing greenhouse gases. Municipalities can also team with NYPA to add electric vehicle charging stations to support their municipal fleet vehicles.

Benefits of this service to municipalities: 

• Customer has one point of contact throughout all phases of the project
• Full turnkey service, including: site survey; engineering and design; bidding and procurement; construction management; and environmental services

• NYPA provides low rate financing for qualified customers, including the option to finance the purchase of the system as part of the project

• NYPA buys electric vehicle charging stations in bulk and can provide a substantial discount

• DEC municipal rebates can cover up to 80 percent of project costs for public electric vehicle charging.  Rebates are also available for municipal electric vehicle fleet purchases.

• NYPA has installed over 100 charging stations across New York State.  Our staff can provide advice on optimal locations to maximize charging station use while minimizing the installation costs

• Self-install option for municipalities with in-house licensed electricians

• Municipality is able to realize both energy and maintenance savings for their fleet

• Municipality can bill end users for the electricity dispensed through software on the charging stations. Software also allows the municipality to track charging station use and calculate gasoline savings and greenhouse gas reductions associated with the charging stations. 

• Municipality can enhance parking revenue and sales taxes by attracting electric vehicle drivers to shop and dine in your town.  NYPA posts charging station locations on websites commonly used by electric vehicle drivers.  As electric vehicles become more common, municipalities without charging stations will be at a commercial disadvantage to their neighbors that do.
