To culminate Earth Month, representatives of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and International Paper in Ticonderoga (Essex County) will be joined by state and local officials on Wednesday, April 30, at 1 p.m. to recognize the success of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s ReCharge New York (RNY) power program in the North Country Region and its benefits to the environmentally sustainable manufacturing operations at International Paper.

International Paper’s Ticonderoga Mill produces up to 850 tons/day of paper made from trees harvested in working Adirondack and Vermont forests in accordance with the highest standards of forestry management and sustainable practices. The Mill employs 600 employees with a $51.1 million payroll with an additional 600 to 700 independent loggers and truckers earning their living from mill operations.

Governor Cuomo launched the RNY power program to help businesses and other entities lower their operating costs and spur economic development. The program offers up to seven-year contracts for lower-cost power. Also attending will be members of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council, which provides strategic guidance to state entities charged with leveraging public funding and resources to promote regional economic growth.
