Statement by N.Y. Power Authority President Gil C. Quiniones on NYPA General Counsel Judith McCarthy Being Named to U.S. District Court Magistrate Judgeship

“I want to congratulate Judith C. McCarthy, New York Power Authority [NYPA] executive vice president and general counsel, on her being selected to serve as a magistrate judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

“Judith has performed with great distinction in leading the NYPA Law Department since joining the Power Authority in January 2011 from the New York State Attorney General’s Office. Her legal expertise and good judgment have been invaluable to numerous initiatives that NYPA has contributed to under Governor Cuomo’s leadership in support of the state’s electric power system and economy.

“These efforts have included the successful  implementation of the ReCharge NY and Build Smart NY programs—key statewide lower cost power and energy efficiency programs central to the Governor’s energy policies—and the New York Energy Highway Initiative—another gubernatorial endeavor, to modernize the state’s electric power system.

"Judith has been a trusted counselor and advisor to the NYPA Board of Trustees and executive management.  She has displayed extraordinary dedication, integrity and tireless efforts on behalf of NYPA and New York State, and I wish her the very best in the magistrate judgeship that she will soon be assuming. The U.S. District Court is gaining an outstanding public servant."
