Two New York City Firms Awarded Contracts by New York Power Authority in Support of Statewide Operations

WHITE PLAINS—New York Power Authority (NYPA) President Richard M. Kessel today announced that NYPA has approved several new contracts with New York State companies for carrying out various essential services undertaken by the statewide public power.

“One of the Power Authority’s key missions is to support economic development and job creation throughout the State of New York,” Kessel said. “NYPA does hundreds of millions of dollars a year in business with New York companies and we plan to continue that practice for years to come.”

The contracts, which will become effective on or about Jan. 1, 2011, result from competitive processes for obtaining the lowest-priced bids from qualified companies, in response to Requests for Proposals posted on the Authority’s Procurement Web site and/or notices in the New York State Contract Reporter.

The Power Authority Trustees recently authorized contracts with a number of companies, including the following New York-based firms:

E-J Electric Installation, Long Island City. The firm will provide for general electrical maintenance services for NYPA’s 500-Megawatt Combined-Cycle Plant. The up-to-three-year contract has a ceiling of $300,000.
Lucius Pitkin, New York City. The firm will provide failure analysis and metallurgical examination and testing services in support of the Power Authority’s plants, projects, facilities and transmission lines. Technical services include providing all engineering, supervision, labor, materials and equipment required to sample, test and analyze metallic and other elements used in power plant equipment and components. The work will be performed, as needed, at NYPA’s facilities, construction sites, manufacturer’s plants, or in the consultant’s laboratory. The up-to-five-year contract has a ceiling of $550,000.
Applied Energy Group, Islandia. The company, in Suffolk County, will provide for consulting services to conduct a program impact and process evaluation of the Power Authority’s energy efficiency program, focusing on NYPA’s governmental customer projects in New York City and Westchester County. The intent of the evaluation is to measure and verify program and portfolio impacts and, where needed, to identify program design and process or implementation improvements. The up-to-two-year $446,000 contract reinforces the Power Authority’s commitment to support the New York State Energy Plan, which seeks to reduce energy consumption, as well as to participate in the continuing development of the New York State Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standards, which seeks to ensure the transparent and consistent reporting of program savings.
BIDCO Marine Group, Grand Island, and McLaren Engineering Group, West Nyack. The two firms will provide for underwater inspection services to support the operation and maintenance of Authority facilities located throughout New York State. Such services include routine outage underwater inspections, debris management and minor underwater equipment and structural repairs. The contracts will last up-to-five-years and total a maximum of $2 million.
Brockway Sanitation Service, Moira. The company, in Franklin County, will provide for sewage removal and disposal services for the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project. The up-to-three-year $85,000 contract includes annual pumping of septic tanks and other holding tanks, transportation, and sewage disposal, as needed.
Fox Fence, Niagara Falls. The firm will provide for on-call emergency repair services for security gates and fences at the Niagara Power Project. The up-to-four-year $100,000 contract includes all labor, supervision, equipment, materials and technical support.
SJB Services, Hamburg. The company, in Erie County, will provide for on-call laboratory testing and inspection services of various materials including, but not limited to, concrete, metals, paint, welds and soil for the Niagara Power Project. The independent testing laboratory would perform such verification testing or inspection services related to work being performed at the project to ensure that materials conform to all requisite standards and requirements. The up-to-five-year contract totals a maximum of $400,000.
NYPA has made it a priority to support the state’s economy with efforts to purchase the products and engage the services of New York State-based companies. In 2010 alone, more than $220 million in contracts have been awarded to state firms, supporting taxpaying businesses and jobs with the infusion of capital into the local economies across the state.
