The Relicensing of the Gregory B. Jarvis Plant

Hinckley Dam was built in the early 1900s, creating Hinckley Reservoir for the purpose of providing water to the Erie Barge Canal System, the predecessor of the current New York Barge Canal.

In 1982 The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued NYPA a 40-year license to install and operate a 9 Mw generating facility at the existing Hinckley Dam, for the limited purpose of capturing the generation potential of the water releases for the existing purposes of navigation, public water supply, electrical generation downstream by Erie Boulevard as well as for recreation and aquatic resources.

The existing FERC license will expire in July 2022. Questions? Contact us via email at Jarvis.Relicensing@nypa.gov.
