MASSENA, N.Y. — The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will feature free robot-themed activities for kids and families to exercise their hands and minds over the Spring Break at the Hawkins Point Visitors Center. The activities will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the week of April 6. Children will have the opportunity to participate in free robot-themed activities throughout the day and take home their creations. Activities include making robot sticker sheets, doodle robot, snap robot and other robotic STEM activities. In addition, family-friendly robot movies will be shown daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the visitors center theater.
Activities are available on a drop-in basis; however, participants are encouraged to preregister for the activity by calling (315) 764-6679.
Spring Break fun will be held April 6 through April 10.
Hawkins Point, the admission-free visitors center for the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project, offers many hands-on exhibits on electricity, energy, the environment and area history. Visitors can hop aboard a bicycle generator and turn pedal power into electricity or have a hair-raising experience with static electricity using the Van de Graaff generator.
The Visitors Center also features an audio-visual terrain map that charts the course of the mighty St. Lawrence River between Ogdensburg and Massena. A wood-carved map detailing Jacques Cartier’s exploration of the St. Lawrence River is also on display at Hawkins Point. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the project’s power dam. A community room is also available for public use.
The Visitors Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Visitors Center will be closed Friday, April 3.
