The Ranking Recognizes Top Employers in Terms of Benefits, Salary and Professional Development
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has been recognized by Forbes Magazine on itslist of Best Employers for Engineers in 2026. The Power Authority was ranked No. 130 of 175 nationally ranked organizations and was one of just nine utility companies that made the ranking. This list is designed to help engineers find potential employers.
"This recognition is a testament to the dedication, hard work and ingenuity of the talented Power Authority engineers who are committed to driving our mission of providing reliable, affordable and clean electricity with excellence and innovation at the forefront,” said NYPA President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll. “As the largest state public power organization in the nation, our work supporting New York’s clean energy transition demands a workforce that is as bold as it is innovative, and this recognition by Forbes magazine as a top employer for engineers will help draw even more talented innovators to the Power Authority."
NYPA also earned rankings on Forbes’ List of America’s Best Employers for Company Culture 2025, America's Best Midsize Employers 2025, America’s Best Employers for New Grads 2025, America’s Best Employer for Women 2025 and America’s Best-In-State Employers 2025 this year.
“With the high demand for engineers continuing across the industry, we are committed to being an employer of choice,” said NYPA Senior Vice President of Human Resources Karina Saslow. “We are proud to provide diverse job opportunities coupled with robust professional development programs, an innovative and dynamic work environment where employees can build fulfilling careers, and a supportive work environment where all employees can leverage their unique skills to contribute to our mission for the benefit of all New Yorkers.”
Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey more than 28,000 engineers working for companies with at least 1,000 people within the United States. Respondents were asked how likely they would be to recommend their current employer, their previous employer (within the past two years) and companies they knew through peers in their industry or through friends or family who worked there. Current workers were also asked to evaluate their employers based on salary, benefits and professional development opportunities. Data from the past three years of Forbes-Statista employee surveys was included. Responses were tallied, and the 175 companies with the highest scores made our list.
The Power Authority employs more than 2,500 people in New York State and operates and maintains major hydropower projects in Western and Northern New York as well as one-third of the state’s power transmission system.
NYPA’s workforce includes individuals with a diverse range of skills, including engineers, mechanics, security professionals, electricians, project managers, environmental scientists, data analysts, cloud engineers, financial analysts, energy traders, and many others.
