New York Energy Zone to Host Annual Wildlife Festival on September 9

UTICA—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will hold its annual Wildlife Festival, a free community event comprised of family-friendly activities, at the John S. Dyson New York Energy Zone and the neighboring Utica Zoo on Saturday, September 9, between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shuttle service to the Energy Zone for the event will be available from the Parkway Recreation Center and Mohawk Valley Community College.

The Wildlife Festival will feature various activities and attractions on the grounds surrounding the Energy Zone and at the Utica Zoo, including face painting, arts and crafts, a photo booth, balloon animals, bounce houses, and live entertainment. The event will also host the Utica Children’s Museum’s mobile museum. Guests are asked to refrain from bringing balloons from the Energy Zone to the Utica Zoo out of concern for zoo animal welfare.

The New York Energy Zone is a fully immersive and hands-on science center designed for visitors of all ages, guiding guests on a powerful journey through the past, present, and future of electricity. Visits to the 15,000 square-foot facility kickoff with an eye-popping 3-D movie—directed by legendary filmmaker Douglas Trumbull—about Nikola Tesla and his contributions to modern electricity systems. In addition, there are more than 40 interactive displays and games that include flying a drone, checking transmission lines, operating a power plant, and building a tabletop microgrid.
