New York Power Authority Celebrates the Birthday of Nikola Tesla at the

New York Energy Zone with Giveaways to Visitors on Monday, July 10

UTICA—To celebrate the 167th birthday of famed scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla, the New York Power Authority will give away small NYPA-themed gifts to visitors at the New York Energy Zone in Utica on Monday, July 10. Visitors will be eligible to spin a prize wheel that includes items such as flying discs, tumblers and reusable lunch bags.

Tesla, who designed the modern electricity supply system, was an ethnic Serb born in present-day Croatia and immigrated to the United States to pursue his work in the budding field of electricity with Thomas Edison. Tesla eventually partnered with George Westinghouse and established alternating current (AC) as the standard for electricity delivery worldwide.

The New York Energy Zone is a fully immersive and hands-on science center designed for visitors of all ages, guiding guests on a powerful journey through the past, present, and future of electricity. Visits to the 15,000 square-foot facility kickoff with an eye-popping 3-D movie—directed by legendary filmmaker Douglas Trumbull—about Nikola Tesla and his contributions to modern electricity systems. In addition, there are more than 40 interactive displays and games that include flying a drone, checking transmission lines, operating a power plant, and building a tabletop microgrid.
