Pose for Photos with Lloyd, Niagara County’s SPCA Dog Battling Terminal Illness and Inspiring the Western New York Community
LEWISTON—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will host its annual “Hallow-GREEN Spooktacular” on Saturday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Niagara Power Vista, located at 5777 Lewiston Road in Lewiston.
Children up to age 15 are invited to dress in their most creative garb for a costume contest beginning at 10 a.m. The contest will divide participants into three age groups: infant to three years-old, four to nine years-old, and 10 to 15 years-old. Contest winners will be announced at 3 p.m., along with an additional prize for the most creative costume. Costumes will be judged on originality, creativeness, and overall appearance. Free pumpkins will be available to the first 300 children.
Lloyd, a 12-year-old pit bull in the care of the Niagara County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), will attend this year’s event. Lloyd was adopted by the agency in early July and shortly after was diagnosed with terminal cancer and end-stage kidney failure. The agency created a bucket list for Lloyd to ensure his final days are lived to the fullest. Lloyd has been on many adventures throughout Western New York, where he continues to inspire his community. Lloyd will arrive at the Power Vista between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., where he will be help judge this year’s costume contest.
Those attending this free family event can enjoy games, candy and crafts courtesy of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation’s (Parks) Interpretive Center. Additionally, Parks will provide free rides on its Niagara Scenic Trolley between Prospect Point and the Niagara Power Project during the event.
In addition to Hallow-GREEN Spooktacular events, guests are invited to enjoy the state-of-the-art exhibits at the Niagara Power Vista, including a 3D animation that gets you up close and personal to power generation without having to wear a hard hat. Visitors can take a seat in a 4D theatre virtual rollercoaster ride, create a transmission distribution system on a one-of-a-kind transmission grid table, build a dam or simulate the coordination of power across the state during bad weather.
