MASSENA - The New York Power Authority will offer a new summer event on Saturday, July 16 at its Hawkins Point Visitors Center in Massena. The Summer STEM Social will feature energy and science activities, family fun and everyone’s favorite treat, ice cream.
All events are free and open to the public. Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Mad Science Academy will be bringing its discovery booth and will offer STEM activities for school-aged children. For over 30 years, Mad Science has focused on designing and testing experiments and activities that resonate with kids, allowing for an fun and innovative hands-on experience.
Jeff Boyer will return to Hawkins Point to show kids and adults that energy is what makes our world work. He will demonstrate the laws and forces of energy which govern the world with exciting energy-filled interactive demonstrations that will entertain and amaze!
Save the River, of Clayton, NY, will have live mussels and presentations on the St. Lawrence River that will engage everyone. Did you know the St. Lawrence River has 23 different species of freshwater mussel? Did you know they were harvested for food and turned into buttons? Visit the Save the River exhibit to see live mussels and learn more about why these animals are the mightiest river keepers!
There will also be bounce houses for the kids, summer crafts and free Stewart’s Ice Cream. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the visitors center and the panoramic views of the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project.
The Hawkins Point Visitors Center has also begun operating on summer hours: Open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
