May 16, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LEWISTON—The schedule for submitting proposed Greenway projects to the Buffalo & Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee was established Wednesday at their meeting held at Marcy Casino, Delaware Park.  June 15, 2008 was set as the submission deadline for projects to be considered for review and funding.  Another round of project review and funding is expected later this year.

The committee selected Holly Sinnot, Commissioner, Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, as chairperson.

Guidelines and instructions for projects seeking funding from the Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee are posted at http://niagara.nypa.gov.  Project submission questions should be directed to Rob Daly, Special Advisor for Relicensing, New York Power Authority (NYPA).

The Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee is composed of one representative from Erie County, City of Buffalo, Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy and NYPA.

The Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee receives funds from NYPA, as part of a settlement agreement related to the new 50-year license received by NYPA for the Niagara Power Project.  During the term of the new license, the Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee will receive $2 million a year.

The next meeting for the Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee is scheduled for 6pm on July 15, 2008 at the Marcy Casino.  All meetings are open to the public.
