Hawkins Point Boat Launch to Close Monday, April 8
MASSENA—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) today announced that the Frank S. McCullough Jr., Hawkins Point Boat Launch will be closed on Monday, April 8. Boaters are encouraged to use nearby facilities.
The boat launch will re-open on Tuesday, April 9. The boat launch’s docks are expected to be installed later this month.
The Hawkins Point Visitors Center will be open on April 8. Parking and space will be limited.
The visitors center offers many hands-on exhibits on electricity, energy, the environment, and area history. Visitors can hop aboard a bicycle generator and turn pedal power into electricity or have a hair-raising experience with static electricity using the Van de Graaff generator. A historic wood-carved map detailing Jacques Cartier’s exploration of the St. Lawrence River is also on display at the visitors center. Additionally, guests can view an audio-visual terrain map charts the course of the mighty St. Lawrence River from Ogdensburg to Massena.
Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of the Power Authority’s St. Lawrence-FDR power project’s dam. A community room is also available for public use.
