New Service Supports Governor Cuomo’s BuildSmart NY and Smart Street Lighting NY Programs
WHITE PLAINS—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) Board of Trustees today approved a new NYPA service that will offer its customers maintenance support on completed energy efficiency projects. The additional customer support enhances both Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s BuildSmart NY and Smart Street Lighting NY programs.
“Power Authority customers are often faced with the challenge of obtaining the expertise required to maintain their new energy system equipment,” said Gil C. Quiniones, NYPA president and CEO. “This new service provides our customers with an added layer of reliability to continue operating their new equipment optimally and attaining the best energy savings for years to come.”
Under Governor Cuomo’s BuildSmart NY program, which was established in 2012, NYPA has invested more than $1.8 billion in energy efficiency projects with plans to invest more than $1.5 billion in energy efficiency measures throughout New York State over the next several years at state and local government facilities, continuing to develop its energy services program to $300 million annually.
NYPA will now offer to its governmental customers preventative and unscheduled maintenance support services on equipment that NYPA has installed through its energy services program, enabling customers to maintain energy savings, maximize the life of the equipment and continue reliable operation. Maintenance support includes extended training, spare parts, inspections, major equipment service contracts, calibration, testing and preventative measures.
Also included in today’s board action was a five-year contract award to E-J Electric T&D for the potential maintenance of all the Power Authority’s LED streetlight replacement projects around the state under Smart Street Lighting NY, which calls for at least 500,000 street lights throughout the state to be replaced with energy-saving LED technology by 2025. The new maintenance service program is now available to municipalities that have engaged with NYPA to implement a LED street lighting conversion.
