Ramping up its effort to focus on long-range planning and help New York State achieve its ambitious clean energy goals, the New York Power Authority (NYPA) has hired a business strategist to serve in the new position of senior vice president, strategy and corporate development. Yves Edouard Noel joined NYPA Oct. 1.

“Yves is a recognized problem solver with proven success designing and implementing strategies to improve business,” said NYPA President and CEO Gil C. Quiniones. “Yves’ perspective and experience will be valuable to NYPA as we continue to navigate the increasing complex energy landscape and transition to a cleaner and more cost-effective energy future.”

Noel is an experienced management consultant who has helped several clients develop strategies for growth and operational improvements. He will help drive NYPA’s overall strategy and is tasked with using the wealth of NYPA data to drive strategic decision-making to structure and grow business, while establishing strategic partnerships.

In recent years, NYPA has placed a greater emphasis on strategic thinking and planning to address the many challenges and changes in the utility industry. A new VISION2030 strategic plan is currently being finalized to guide NYPA through the next decade and maintain NYPA’s leadership position in addressing climate change and driving clean energy programs for New York State. Yves will help realize this vision. Yves also will have a lead role in reimagining the New York State Canal System, a plan to transform the Erie Canal into a 21st century asset with input from stakeholders and community members along the Canal system.

Noel is a member of NYPA’s Executive Management Committee, which helps establish and guide NYPA’s long-range strategic plans and initiatives.

Noel holds a MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and has more than 15 years of experience shaping businesses and implementing new systems and processes. Most recently he has provided consultant services through the Oliver Wyman Group in New York to clients seeking to develop growth strategies and improve operations.  He began his strategic consulting career with Booz Allen and Hamilton in Washington DC.
