Classroom Presentations

Come visit the Blenheim-Gilboa visitors center and learn about the basics of electricity. Located in the Catskill region of New York State, our visitors center, Lansing Manor and Minekill State Park are a center of family fun all year round.

Basics of Electricity

After participating in the "Basics" programs, students will be able to identify how electricity is produced, know the source of energy and will have learned about the transmission and distribution of electricity.  Topics covered include atomic structure, electric current, static electricity, magnetism and how motors and generators work. 40 minutes.  For grade levels 4-8

Electrical Safety

Our representative works with pictures and everyday household appliances to help children recognize and learn responsible electrical safety behavior.  At the completion of the program, each student receives a safety certificate. 20 minutes. Pre-K through 2nd grade.

Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project

areail view of BG Visitors CenterUsing slides, our representatives give an overview of the New York Power Authority and take you floor-by-floor through the Blenheim-Gilboa powerhouse to show the key components used to operate this one million kilowatt facility.  Ideal if constraints are such that a field trip to the power project visitors center is not possible.  40 minutes. For grades 3 and up.


Caring for the Environment

Presentation demonstrates NYPA's longstanding commitment to preserve the quality of the air and water in the communities in which we operate.  30 minutes. Grade levels 6 and up.

Shocking Truth

Explores the underlying principles of electricity; students learn about electricity's nature and behavior and use the information to solve problems involving electricity.  Includes video (17 minutes), discussion guide for teachers and student workshops. Grades 4 and up.
