Governor Andrew Cuomo has called for the expansion of New York State’s solar photovoltaic (PV) programs through the NY-Sun Initiative, with the goal of quadrupling installed solar capacity in the state by 2013.
NY-Sun is expected to be developed through an expansion of New York’s existing solar energy incentive programs, including the Renewable Portfolio Standard solar incentive program administered by the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) as well as the solar incentives offered by the Long Island Power Authority.
The Governor also stated a concern regarding the high cost of solar power and stressed the need to keep a firm eye on solar costs to protect ratepayers.
As part of the Governor’s NY-Sun initiative, NYPA has developed the Solar Market Acceleration Program (Solar MAP). This program is designed to help reduce solar costs, thereby allowing the state’s incentive programs to be more cost effective.
With a total budget of up to $30 million over a five-year period, Solar MAP will be closely coordinated with NYSERDA’s solar research programs and other state agency stakeholders. The program will provide, through competitive solicitations, activities in three main areas:
More information about Solar MAP will be made available on this web page and through public competitive solicitations during the coming months.
