Microturbines

White Plains office microturbine.

Our White Plains Office is also the site of NYPA’s first microturbine, a refrigerator-sized system fed by natural gas, which generates power and heat with high efficiency and low emissions. Microturbines  can supplement traditional generating sources at times of peak demand and high power costs, or serve as the primary power source if grid service is unreliable or unavailable. They also allow for the use of fuels such as waste gases from wastewater treatment plants and landfills. We also installed a microturbine-based combined heat and power plant—the first of its kind in New York—at the Lewiston wastewater treatment plant. (List of NYPA's microturbine projects)
