Tri-Lakes Reliability Project
New York Power Authority Open House
June 10, 2005
Purpose of the Open House
The Open House provides the public an
opportunity to learn more about the plans for a new power line to
improve the reliability of electric service to the Tri-Lakes region
and surrounding communities.
The Open House is part of a comprehensive
program of public outreach which also includes meetings with elected
officials and interested groups, information submitted to the news
media and establishing a web site.
Using a variety of different formats allows the
New York Power Authority (NYPA) to share information with different
audiences on the various aspects of the planning process for the new
line and to get significant feedback as to the interests and
concerns of the community.
How does the Open House fit in to the
process for planning the new line?
As part of the State Environmental Quality
Review (SEQR) Process, NYPA must show that it has sought and
addressed the concerns and issues of the public. Those issues and
concerns will be documented in the Draft Environmental Impact
Statement (DEIS) which examines a broad range of issues related to
the project. The DEIS is part of the application process for the
regulatory agencies.
Next Steps
NYPA will review and address the comments
received at the Open House. The comments and the responses will be
included in the DEIS. NYPA will review the comments and determine
if additional information and/or studies are needed to address the
issues raised.
NYPA will complete analysis of the routes and
establish preliminary recommendations for a preferred and an
alternate route. NYPA staff will do additional public and agency
outreach to obtain feed back on those preliminary recommendations.
Based on this input, the preferred and
alternate routes will be finalized for inclusion in the applications
to be filed with the regulatory agencies this summer.
