Rock Scaling Project in the Niagara Gorge Begins Today
WHAT: Rock scaling is done regularly in the gorge to protect those using the trails for recreational purposes as well as crews working on the trails and on permitting and preliminary design of the Maid of the Mist winter storage docks project. This preliminary work is being funded by the Maid of the Mist and the appropriate permits for the rock scaling work have been issued by the New York Power Authority and New York State Office Parks, Recreation and Historic.
The process involves crews going over the edge of the gorge with safety harnesses and removing loose rocks, boulders and other items that could pose a hazard to those below. We expect the project to take 4-6 weeks.
WHEN: Today, Monday April 1st
WHERE: The area around the Gorge Discovery Center at Niagara Falls State Park.
