New York Power Authority Named Clean Air Champion
October 12, 2011
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) was recently named a Clean Air Champion by Clean Air NY, an initiative sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation to improve air quality in the New York metropolitan area. At a ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Power Authority’s administrative office in White Plains, NYPA Acting President and CEO Gil C. Quiniones (second from right) accepts the Clean Air Champion award from Frank Mongioi, director of marketing and outreach for Clean Air NY. Also on hand to receive the award are Susan Egginton, NYPA’s director of corporate support services (left) and Ida Gencarelli, NYPA’s director of compensation and benefits (right), who were joined by Carol Ryan of 511NY Rideshare.
The award recognizes NYPA for measures it has taken to improve air quality, including offering employees a flexible work schedule, providing preferential parking for those who commute to work in electric cars or van pools, the establishment of an all-volunteer Green Team that sponsors “green” events and activities to generate environmental awareness, and NYPA’s promotion of Air Quality Action Day Alerts to its employees and customers.
