NYPA and MTA Install Solar Thermal System for Coney Island Train Yard
June 3, 2010

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) and MTA New York City Transit have partnered on the installation of a solar thermal system for providing hot water for NYC Transit’s Coney Island Train Yard in Brooklyn. The project, at the complex’s maintenance facility, is part of $1.1 million in recently completed energy-saving upgrades at the train yard, where many of the city’s subway cars are maintained and repaired. NYPA President Richard M. Kessel and MTA NYC Transit President Thomas F. Prendergast marked the completion of those initiatives at a June 3 event at the complex.
