FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NORTH BLENHEIM—Spring is in the air and that means it’s time to get outside and take advantage of the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) free hiking expedition through the Schoharie Valley, guided by Long Path expert Clarence Putman, on Saturday, May 8.

Before the hike, there will be a brief presentation on the history of the Long Path—a 347-mile hiking trail running from the George Washington Bridge to Albany.  Afterwards Putman, of the Long Path North Hiking Club, will lead a one-hour hike on the Schoharie County trails.  Trail grades are easy, though participants are encouraged to wear hiking or other sturdy shoes. Hikers will look for signs of spring and learn how to identify new growth on trees.

Those interested in taking part in the event should meet at the Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center at 11 a.m., rain or shine. Free refreshments will be served.

Before or after the hike, participants are encouraged to stop at the NYPA visitors center and Historic Lansing Manor, both admission-free. Visitors will enjoy the many hands-on displays and exhibits on energy, and experience the rich history of a 19th-century estate. Both facilities will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The visitors center and adjacent Lansing Manor are located on Route 30 in North Blenheim, five miles north of Grand Gorge, 17 miles south of Middleburgh and 50 miles southwest of Albany. For more information, please call 1-800-724-0309.
