FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NORTH BLENHEIM—The New York Power Authority (NYPA)
swings into autumn with a full roster of special events and
continues its 7-day-a-week schedule at its admission-free Blenheim-Gilboa
Visitors Center – one of the Catskill region’s top tourist
attractions.
The new season kicks-off with the annual Wildlife
Festival and Energy Expo on Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. Now in its 24th year, the Wildlife Festival will again
feature a variety of live animal exhibits, along with entertainment,
arts and crafts, educational presentations and children’s
activities. The complementary Energy Expo features more than two
dozen vendors offering information and services to help businesses
and homeowners reduce their energy costs.
On Saturday, October 10, the Visitors Center will
play host to a Fall Hike and Woodsman day, featuring a hiking
expedition through autumn splendor on the trails of the Schoharie
Valley in the northern Catskills. Hikers should meet at the
visitors center at 11 a.m.
A “Scary Halloween” event is on tap for Saturday,
October 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring spooky stories, games,
prizes and a Halloween movie.
The Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center, housed in a
19th-century dairy barn on the power project grounds, is filled with
hands-on exhibits that demonstrate the basics of electricity and
provide a look at how NYPA’s Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power
Project operates. Throughout the year, the visitors center is open
to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for
certain holidays. Also on-site is the Historic Lansing Manor, a
country estate built in 1819 that is now operated as a museum.
Lansing Manor is open daily, except Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m., May 1 through October 31.
NYPA’s Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center is located
on Route 30, five miles north of Grand Gorge, 17 miles south of
Middleburgh and 50 miles southwest of Albany. To learn more about
any of these events, call 800-724-0309 or visit
