Close Encounters with Exotic Animals at Nypa’s
Annual Wildlife Festival

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MASSENA—The New York Power Authority will play host
to its annual Wildlife Festival on the grounds of the Frank S.
McCullough, Jr. Hawkins Point Visitors Center, Saturday, Sept.19
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The admission-free event will feature fun for
the entire family with exhibits of live animals, nature displays,
arts, crafts and entertainment.
Several popular exhibitors from previous years will
be returning this year including, the World of Wildlife and
Educational Encounters (WOWEE) and Reptiles Forever. Featuring a
variety of exotic and endangered animals, WOWEE volunteers will
offer educational shows with interactive games at 11:30 a.m. and 2
p.m. In between shows, volunteers will be on hand to answer
questions about the animals. Jerry and Mary Benvenuto from Reptiles
Forever will showcase a variety of insects and reptiles, including a
python and a 50-pound turtle.
Other exhibitors include the New York State
Department of Environmental Conservation, the Thompson Park Zoo,
Martin’s Fish Preserve and the Robert Moses Nature Center. There
will be a petting zoo with farm animals, craft projects, wagon rides
and movies in the visitors center theater.
During the Wildlife
Festival, the visitors center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
featuring a wide range of interactive exhibits on subjects such as
water power and NYPA’s St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project, along with
the basics and uses of electricity. Visitors will also be able to
enjoy panoramic views of the power dam. The Visitors Center is open
daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Columbus Day.
