Media Advisory and Photo Opportunity: New York Power Authority Sponsors 20th Annual Niagara Regional Envirothon

April 27, 2009

LEWISTON – The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will sponsor the 20th Annual Niagara-Orleans Regional Envirothon on Friday, May 1, which will feature more than 65 students representing 13 local high schools. Coordinated by the Niagara-Orleans County Soil & Water Conservation Districts, this competition tests students’ knowledge in five areas: soil, aquatics, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues.

“We appreciate NYPA’s continuing support of this unique educational experience,” said Darcy Rae Tone, education program administrator, Niagara County Soil & Water Conservation District.

Similar regional events are being held throughout New York State, with top teams competing in the Envirothon finals later in May.

Schools must pre-register, but admission is free for spectators. There will be ample opportunity for photos. Media is welcome to attend.
