North American Parks Featured in NYPA's World Travelogue Series Contact:
NORTH BLENHEIM—The annual World Travelogue series returns on Sundays in March to the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project admission-free visitors center. This year the series will feature several of North America’s loveliest parks. The slideshow presentations for armchair travelers will be held at 2 p.m. in the visitors center theater, with refreshments served after each presentation. The schedule is as follows: March 8: “History of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation,” presented by Brain Strasavich, park manager, Mine Kill State Park. March 15: “Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks,” presented by Bill Massoth. Located in Utah, these natural treasures combine stunning stone formations, canyons and mountains. March 22: “Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Westward Ho,” presented by Bill Massoth. Learn the history of the “badlands,” and experience the beauty of a petrified forest, Canyonland and Dead Horse Point. March 29: “Banff and Jasper National Parks,” presented by Bill Massoth. Explore the geology of the Canadian Rockies and discover the scenic wonders of these Canadian jewels. Admission is free, but seating is limited so those planning to attend are asked to call 1-800-724-0309 for reservations. Guests are also invited to enjoy the visitors center’s attractions, which include hands-on exhibits for students of all ages and abilities. Visitors can learn how this pumped-storage power project acts like a giant battery, generating hydroelectricity while recycling water between two huge reservoirs. Other displays demonstrate the basics of electricity, energy production and conservation. The Blenheim-Gilboa Visitors Center is located on Route 30, five miles north of Grand Gorge, 17 miles south of Middleburgh and 50 miles southwest of Albany.
