Photos and Captions: New Fish Protection System Installed at NYPA Plant September 16, 2008 Sound projectors are lowered from a barge for installation in the Mohawk River as part of the New York Power Authority’s redesigned fish protection system at the Crescent hydroelectric plant. The system, which uses sound from the projectors to repel blueback herring, is intended to keep the fish away from the plant’s powerhouse on their annual downstream migration to the Atlantic Ocean.
