Media Advisory: Buffalo and Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee to Hold First Meeting, May 14 May 6, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LEWISTON—The Buffalo & Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee (Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee) will hold its first meeting on Wed., May 14 from 6-8pm at the Marcy Casino, Delaware Park, Buffalo. The Erie County Standing Committee is composed of one representative from Erie County, City of Buffalo, Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy and the New York Power Authority (NYPA). The meeting agenda includes election of officers, consideration of draft protocols and a 2008 funding schedule. The draft protocols and the agenda will be posted to NYPA’s Niagara Power Project Relicensing website, http://niagara.nypa.gov. The meeting is open to the public. The Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee receives funds from NYPA, as part of a settlement agreement related to the new 50-year license received by NYPA for the Niagara project. During the term of the new license, the Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee will receive $2 million a year. In addition to the Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee, three other standing committees were created to disperse funds those groups received in other settlement agreements with NYPA. The other committees are: Greenway Ecological Standing Committee ($1 million/year), Host Community Greenway Fund Standing Committee ($3 million/year) and the State Parks Standing Committee ($3 million/year). Greenway funding from NYPA is $9 million annually over the 50-year license term for a total of $450 million. Projects and their funding from the Buffalo & Erie County Standing Committee will be aligned with the Niagara River Greenway Plan. The Plan was developed by the Niagara River Greenway Commission which is a public benefit corporation established by Chapter 460 of the laws of 2004, and charged with the planning and development of a greenway of interconnected parks, river access points and waterfront trails along the Niagara River from Buffalo to Youngstown.
