FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK—The New York Power Authority (NYPA) will
co-sponsor the 19th annual Ecofest Environmental Festival on Sunday,
September 30 at Lincoln Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The
multi-faceted, admission-free environmental event is designed to
promote awareness of urban and global environmental issues.
A major focus of Ecofest, along with conservation
of natural resources, is innovative alternative-energy technologies.
NYPA has extensive energy-efficiency programs in place, as well as
projects to demonstrate solar energy, fuel cells and other new
energy sources.
To date, NYPA has completed energy-efficiency
projects at more than 2,600 schools, hospitals, municipal buildings
and other public facilities around the state for energy savings of
more than $100 million a year, reduction in annual greenhouse gas
emissions of approximately 822,000 tons and displacement of more
than 2 million barrels of oil a year.
About NYPA:
■ NYPA uses no tax money or
state credit. It finances its operations through the sale of
bonds and revenues earned in large part through sales of
electricity. ■ NYPA is a leader in promoting
energy-efficiency, new energy technologies and electric
transportation initiatives. ■ It is the
nation’s largest state-owned electric utility, with 18 generating
facilities in various parts of the state and more than 1,400
circuit-miles of transmission lines.
