NORTH BLENHEIM —The New York Power Authority (NYPA)
wants to help keep rising gas prices from putting a crimp in your
vacation plans. This Labor Day, September 3, NYPA will conclude its
summer travel campaign: “More Cruisin’ Less Fuelin’… No Foolin’!”
combining pocketbook-friendly travel ideas with energy-saving
tips—both good for the family budget. This year’s promotion includes
a display set up to promote “green” items and information on how to
make your home or business more environmentally friendly.
Activities start with a trip to NYPA’s
admission-free visitors center at the Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage
Power Project and continue on to other nearby attractions in
beautiful Schoharie Valley. While at the visitors center one can
pick up a free information folder full of brochures on local
family-fun destinations, which use just a few gallons of gas to
visit, and fact sheets on energy-saving and “green” ideas.
“We hope everyone will come and hear about all the
wonderful energy-saving tips that will save you money too,” said
Steve Ramsey, community relations manager at the Blenheim-Gilboa
visitors center. “There is so much to see at the visitors center and
the surrounding area without having to keep making trips to the gas
station.”
The Blenheim-Gilboa visitors center offers a
fun-filled day with its many exciting hands-on exhibits on energy,
electricity, history and the environment. A hybrid electric car is
on display with information on its gas-saving features.
The admission-free NYPA visitors center is open 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except for some holidays. The historic Lansing
Manor, located adjacent to the visitors center, will be open daily,
except Tuesdays, until Monday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For
further information, please call 1-800 724-0309 or go to
www.nypa.gov.
