The BE COOL Challenge, to reduce energy use by
purchasing energy-efficient air-conditioners, between each borough
of New York City and Westchester County kicked off June 21 at
Columbus Park at Brooklyn Borough Hall Plaza hosted by Brooklyn
Borough President Marty Markowitz (second from left). He was joined
by, from left, Alfonso Quiroz, spokesperson, Con Edison; Karen
Villeneuve, acting director of residential programs, New York State
Energy Research and Development Authority, and Timothy S. Carey,
president and chief executive officer, New York Power Authority.
Participants representing the boroughs and Westchester hold up
tee-shirts promoting the BE COOL Challenge.
