Power Authority Marks the Start of Eel Passage Facility’s Operation

Safe Passage—Migrating eels passing through the last section of the eel-passage facilities at the N.Y. Power Authority’s St. Lawrence-F.D.R. Power Project in Massena, on their way to the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. On August 9, NYPA and state and federal officials formally the marked the completion of a $2 million passageway, which includes a shallow metal trough, shown here, facilitating the eels’ passage over the power dam and continued migration.
