FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MARCY—Robert Sblendorio of Marcy, a senior system
operator I at the New Power Authority’s Clark Energy Center, has
been named an Employee of the Quarter for the Power Authority’s
Transmission Business Unit.
Sblendorio was selected by his fellow employees for
his prompt and effective response on March 15 to an ice buildup on
the Niagara River that could have significantly impeded the flow of
water into intakes at the Power Authority’s Niagara Power Project.
He had previously served for 12 years as ice coordinator at the
Niagara Project, New York State’s largest power source, and his
instincts and experience proved essential when a snow storm with
strong winds moved in quickly over the river. In concert with
Niagara project operators, Sblendorio quickly made adjustments to
water flows to the plant that resulted in ice movement.
A Power Authority staff member since 1983,
Sblendorio came to the Clark Energy Center, the nerve center of the
Authority’s statewide operations, in 2000.
Sblendorio and his wife, Sharie, have three sons,
all members of Boy Scout Troop 79 in Marcy. He serves as secretary
of the troop.
