News Advisory: Breast Cancer Awareness Programs at St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project Hawkins Point Visitors Center

Two events are scheduled to promote Breast Cancer Awareness at the Hawkins Point Visitors Center at the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project.

On Wednesday, March 29th at 7 pm, Jackie Dow, health associate, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, will offer a breast health presentation followed by a question and answer session.  Dow also represents North Country Mobile Mammography Services.  North Country Mobile Mammography Services operates within a coach-type bus and makes scheduled stops to bring mammography to underserved populations in the North Country. 

The visitors center will close at 5 PM and re-open a 6:00 PM.   Prior to the presentation, experience the wide array of interactive exhibits, at the newly constructed $5 million visitors center.  Exhibits include Water Power and the St. Lawrence facility, Basics of Electricity and Uses of Electricity.  Visitors are also sure to enjoy the panoramic views of the power dam from Hawkins Point.  Admission to the visitors center is free.

On Wednesday, April 26th, the North Country Mobile Mammography Coach will be on hand to perform mammograms, by appointment, from 9 am to 1 pm during regular visitors center hours.  Appointments are scheduled by calling 1-877-MAMMO2GO or 1-877-626-6624.  North Country Mobile Mammography accommodates women who do not have health insurance and for those women who have insurance, all insurance is accepted.

             DIRECTIONS:            From Massena: Take State Route 37 east to Route 131 (across from St. Lawrence Centre Mall), turn left and proceed through the Eisenhower Lock tunnel. Then take the second right onto Robinson Bay Road and continue for two miles. Turn left onto Hawkins Point Road and follow the entrance road to the visitors center.
