FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYRACUSE. N.Y., Feb. 18, 2006 In response to the
extraordinarily low temperatures in the Tri-Lakes Region (Lake Placid,
Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake), local utilities are asking their customers to
reduce all unnecessary electricity usage from 7 p.m. today until 11 a.m.
tomorrow.
The Village of Lake Placid Municipal Electric System, The
Now York Power Authority, Niagara Mohawk and the Village of Tupper Lake
Municipal Electric System are making the appeal to all customers, including
industries, to minimize the risk of power outages during the unseasonably
cold weather.
Customers dont need to stop using electricity altogether,
just limit usage to essential needs only.
Steps that electricity customers can take are:
Turn down thermostats and limit use of
electric heat (base board or electric boilers) to those rooms where it is
necessary.
Limit use of major appliances such as
electric stoves, dishwashers, televisions and clothes dryers.
Turn off unnecessary lights.
The situation will be constantly monitored, and any new
developments will be reported.
The utilities thank their customers in advance for their
assistance in this effort.
