The American Red Cross and the New York Power
Authority (NYPA) will host a Blood Drive at NYPA’s St. Lawrence-FDR
Power Project Hawkins Point Visitors Center to give the public an
opportunity to find their blood type and to donate blood desperately
needed to lend a helping hand combating the natural disasters our nation
has experienced in the past year.
NYPA will be hosting regular blood drives at the
Hawkins Point Visitors Center for those interested in donating
regularly. The American Red Cross Staff will ensure all medical
histories remains confidential, and that the drive goes off without a
hitch!
To donate blood, you must be healthy, at least 17
years old (or 16 years old if allowed by state law), weigh at least 110
pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days).
"Healthy" means that you feel well and can perform normal activities. If
you have a chronic condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure,
"healthy" also means that you are being treated and the condition is
under control.
During the blood drive, visitors will be able to
view the wide array of interactive exhibits, at the newly constructed $5
million Visitors Center, on the themes of Water Power and the St.
Lawrence facility, Basics of Electricity and Uses of Electricity.
