The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will
receive ten emission-free GEM neighborhood electric vehicles from the
New York Power Authority (NYPA). GEMs are two and four-passenger low
speed vehicles suitable for use in many of NYCHA’s housing developments.
These are the first electric vehicles in the NYCHA fleet.
NYPA President and Chief Executive Officer Eugene
W. Zeltmann will present the keys to NYCHA General Manager Douglas Apple
at the Throggs Neck Houses in the Bronx. NYCHA plans to disperse the
vehicles to a number of housing developments, where staff will use the
emission free vehicles in the course of their normal, day-to-day duties.
There will be excellent photo opportunities to
capture the two and four passenger GEM vehicles in operation at one the
city’s larger housing developments.
On street parking is available in front of the
management office. Additional space is available in the parking lot
across the street. For NYCHA information call (212) 306-3322.
