Breast Cancer Awareness Month Programs at St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project Hawkins Point Visitors Center

Two events are scheduled to promote October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Hawkins Point Visitors Center at the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project.

On Thursday, October 13 at 7 pm, Jackie Dow, health associate, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, will offer a breast health presentation.  It will include a question and answer session.  Dow also represents North Country Mobile Mammography Services.  North Country Mobile Mammography Services operates within a coach-type bus and makes scheduled stops to bring mammography to underserved populations in the North Country. 

Prior to the presentation, experience the wide array of interactive exhibits, at the newly constructed $5 million visitors center, which will re-open at 6 pm.  Exhibits include Water Power and the St. Lawrence facility, Basics of Electricity and Uses of Electricity.  Visitors are also sure to enjoy the panoramic views of the power dam from Hawkins Point.

On Friday, October 14, the North Country Mobile Mammography Coach will be on hand to perform mammograms, by appointment, from 9 am to 1 pm.  Appointments are scheduled by calling 1-877-MAMMO2GO or 1-877-626-6624.  North Country Mobile Mammography accommodates women who do not have health insurance and for those women who have insurance, all insurance is accepted.  The visitors center is open normal hours.

                                               (Visitors Center open normal hours, 9 am – 5 pm)

             DIRECTIONS:            From Massena: Take State Route 37 east to Route 131 (across fromSt. Lawrence Centre Mall), turn left and proceed through the Eisenhower Lock tunnel. Then take the second right onto Robinson Bay Road and continue for two miles. Turn left onto Hawkins Point Road and follow the entrance road to the visitors center.
