FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WHITE PLAINS—The first phase of improvements to
recreation facilities in Lisbon, Waddington and Massena are scheduled
for completion later this spring, opening in time for the summer tourism
season.
“Renovations to these popular riverside sites will
improve summer recreation activities for residents and tourists alike,”
said Louis P. Ciminelli, chairman of the New York Power Authority. “They
are the tangible results of negotiations held during the recently
completed relicensing of the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power
Project in Massena.”
Improvements scheduled to be completed include:
Town of Massena: Complete refurbishment of the Town
Beach bathhouse including new men’s and women’s restrooms compliant with
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, new lighting, new
alarm system, new lighting fixtures, painting, staining and other
refurbishment. Also a new playground, new signage, a new sanitary
treatment and septic system, a rehabilitated beach area and a renovated
and repaved parking area are included in the work. A variety of other,
smaller tasks are also scheduled to be completed.
Town and Village of Waddington: At Whittaker Park,
rehabilitation of recreation fields, playground and tennis court
fencing, installation of ADA-compliant playground equipment and toilet
facilities, new boat launch with parking and toilet facilities, new
floating dock and other amenities.
At Waddington Town Beach, replace bathhouse,
concession building and picnic shelter with ADA-compliant facilities,
rehabilitate beach with additional sand and replace floating swim
platform and playground. Provide ADA compliant paved access to other
park features and buildings and connection to utilities. Also provide a
new floating dock with provision for future expansion and signage and
other small improvements.
Town of Lisbon improvements include a rehabilitated
boat launch and floating docks, a new floating breakwater, an upgraded
water supply at the original bathhouse and an additional 30 electrified
campsites—including four compliant with ADA—with associated roadways
and parking areas. In addition, a new recreational vehicle dump station
is being built, tying in the original bathhouse to the new septic system
and finishing the sanitary system leach field.
Phase two improvements in Massena and Waddington
and improvements in Louisville will begin this May and are scheduled for
completion between May and the spring of 2007.
