FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALBANY—New York Power Authority trustees, meeting
here Tuesday, approved the transfer of 850 kilowatts (kw) and the
allocation of an additional 250 kw of replacement power to Niagara
Ceramics Corporation, which is taking over operations of Buffalo China,
Inc.
Niagara Ceramics has promised to maintain 190 jobs
at the former Buffalo China facility. The new firm was formed by a
management group at Buffalo China, which negotiated a purchase deal with
Oneida Ltd., the parent of Buffalo China. Oneida announced in August
2003 that it was closing the Buffalo operation in favor of acquiring
products from China.
The acquisition of the firm by Niagara Ceramics and
the provision of electricity by the Power Authority are strongly
supported by the City of Buffalo, the Erie County Executive’s office,
Empire State Development Corp., Buffalo Niagara Enterprise and many
elected officials representing the area. |
