FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Governor George E. Pataki announced Tuesday the
appointment of Michael J. Townsend, of Fairport, as a trustee of the
New York Power Authority. He replaces Gerard D. DiMarco on the
board.
Townsend has been a principal attorney at the
firm of Gates & Adams PC in Rochester since 1995.
He is a graduate of the University of Maine and
the Western New England School of Law, where he earned his JD degree
with distinction.
Townsend is a director with the Tobacco
Settlement financing Corp.; counsel to the Monroe County Industrial
Development Agency; counsel to the Greater Rochester Outdoor Sports
Facility; director, New York State Mortgage Bond Bank Agency;
in-house counsel to Regional Transit Authority; counsel to Monroe
County Empire Zone; and deputy counsel to the Rochester Sports
Authority.
He is a member of the New York State and Monroe
County Bar Associations. In addition, he is on the board of
directors of the Fairport Little League and the Friends of the
Family Court.
Townsend, who was confirmed by the State Senate,
has a term that runs until May 6, 2006.
