FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WADDINGTON—Randy Crissman, the New York Power
Authority’s Regional Manager for Northern New York, will present a $15,000
check Tuesday to the Waddington Volunteer Fire Department to help with the
purchase of a thermal imaging camera that will let the firefighters “see”
through smoke and haze at fire sites.
“Safety is a very high priority at the Power
Authority,” said Crissman. “Our concern for safety carries over into
everyday life. These state-of-the-art cameras are a great help to
firefighters in locating fire victims in smoky areas and also protects
firefighters from dangers hidden by smoke.”
Mike Badlam Chief of the Waddington Fire Department, said, “We are very
grateful to the Power Authority for this generous contribution and to Mayor
Phillips and Supervisor Greene for their efforts in making it happen. The
thermal imaging system will help us better equip and train our firefighters
and ensure that our community will continue to have professional, effective
response to our emergency needs.”
“The Power Authority, working in cooperation with local communities, has
again demonstrated it’s appreciation to our emergency service departments
for their excellent work with this generous contribution. This equipment
will help to save lives, enhancing the fire department’s ability to see
during search and rescue operations while minimizing the safety risks to our
firefighters. Thank you for making our community a safer place to live,”
said Village Mayor Liz Phillips.
“The Waddington Fire Department does an outstanding job for people
throughout our town and I am pleased and grateful the Power Authority is
supporting their efforts with this contribution, said Supervisor Reggie
Greene. “With this new thermal imaging system firefighters’ vision will be
improved, assisting in life saving rescues and getting to the source of
fires faster, helping to reduce property damage.”
The Power Authority, which provides about a quarter of
New York State’s electricity needs, owns and operates the
St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power
Project in Massena as well as other generating plants and transmission
lines throughout the state. |
