FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEWISTON, N.Y.—The New York Power Authority Friday filed a formal notice of intent (NOI) with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that it will seek a new license to continue operating the Niagara Power Project.
The current license expires Aug. 31, 2007.
The NOI is the first formal statutory requirement and the second significant milestone in the FERC relicensing procedure for the Power Authority.
In July, FERC approved the Power Authority’s request to use alternative licensing procedures for the relicensing of the Niagara Project. The alternative process will begin late this year or early in 2003.
Information regarding the power project will be available at public libraries in Niagara Falls, Lockport, Buffalo, North Tonawanda and Lewiston and at the Niagara Power Project visitors center.
