GILBOA—Karen Hinkley, of Grand Gorge, a secretary in
the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) Power Generation unit, has been named
Volunteer-of-the-Year at NYPA’s Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project.
“The Volunteer-of-the-Year Program recognizes NYPA
staff members who are outstanding citizens in their communities and each
should be extremely proud of their achievements,” said Louis P. Ciminelli,
chairman of the Power Authority. “Karen has consistently demonstrated her
commitment to safety and willingness to help others both in the community
and on the job, making her an outstanding choice as a Volunteer-of-the-Year
at the Blenheim-Gilboa project.”
Hinkley, a Grand Gorge resident for over 30 years, was
a member of the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad for approximately 20 years, serving
as captain, treasurer and secretary. She has achieved certification as a
New York State Emergency Medical Technician and is also nationally
certified. She is also certified as an American Heart Association Automated
External Defibrillator (AED) instructor.
Hinkley was instrumental in making AED’s available at
the Blenheim-Gilboa Project and in various parts of Central New York. On
her own, she developed an informational program entitled “Conquering Cardiac
Arrest” relative to the AED and the Power Authority’s role in its
availability.
