DEERFIELD—The New York Power Authority gave a big boost Wednesday to the annual state tournament of the New York State Volunteer Firemen’s Parade and Drill Team Captain’s Association. The event will be hosted by the Deerfield Fire Department and will be held here Aug. 17 and 18.

Ed Hubert, the Power Authority’s general manager of transmission maintenance, and Gerry LaRose, director of power systems operations, joined forces to present a $6,000 check in support of the tournament to Robert Tomaino, Deerfield Fire Chief, and Angelo “Monk” Massago, general chairman of the competition.

Deerfield is near the Power Authority’s Clark Energy Center and the Energy Control Center.

Organizers of the competition expect more than 60 teams to participate in a variety of activities including drills in efficiency, bucket brigade and three-man ladder.

Billed as a family-oriented weekend, official activities conclude on Sunday with a parade in Deerfield that is expected to attract at least 10,000 spectators and the presentation of awards to the winning teams.
