Replacement Power Information Sessions To Be Held In Niagara Falls, Buffalo

Potential customers and others interested in obtaining information about low-cost industrial electricity from the New York Power Authority are encouraged to attend public meetings next week in Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

The meetings are in response to Gov. George E. Pataki's announcement last week that the state would make a major effort to use this power to attract more jobs for Western New York. Power Authority representatives will explain what replacement power is, the criteria considered for allocations and how the application process works.

The first session will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Advanced Training Center at 275 Oak Street in Buffalo. A second session will be held Friday, Feb. 15, in Niagara Falls in the auditorium at the Earl W. Brydges Public Library, 1425 Main Street.

Sessions on both days will run from 9 to 11 a.m. and are open to all interested parties.

The meetings are sponsored by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and Niagara USA Chamber of Commerce, Inc. The Power Authority, the Empire State Development Corp., Buffalo Niagara Enterprise and Niagara Mohawk, a National Grid company, will also participate.

The Power Authority has 17,000 kilowatts (kw) of replacement power from its Niagara Power Project available for allocation to manufacturing companies in the Niagara Mohawk service territory and within 30 miles of the project.

Applications for power will be accepted until March 25. Power Authority trustees will review the applications and make decisions on allocations, based on criteria that includes the number of new jobs created, proposed capital investment and potential long term positive impacts on Western New York's economy.
