The Borden Avenue sites were identified as possible sites by the Power Authority in September. It was determinedbased upon Con Ed inputat the time that gas and electrical interconnections could not be provided to this site in time for a June 1 startup date.
In addition the sites at Borden Avenue would require legal actions for the Power Authority to acquire them, as well as additional time for demolition, engineering studies and site preparation. All of these conditions are extremely time consuming and have not been resolved.
We talked with Con Ed in September, October, November, December and earlier this month and at no time did Con Ed ever indicate conditions had changed to make this site viable for June 1.
If, however, at this late date, Con Ed has new information that is inconsistent with what the information they supplied in September, October, November, December and earlier this month, we'll be happy to look at that information. However, the Power Authority will take no action that jeopardizes our responsibility to make sure these plants are operational this summer in order to assure that we help avoid devastating price spikes and keep the lights on in schools, health facilities, businesses and homes in Queens and throughout New York City.
