Welcome to the NYSRECA web
page!
The New York State Rural Electric
Cooperative Association, Inc. (NYSRECA) is a service organization for the New
York State rural electric cooperatives. Its purpose is to foster and
promote the mutual interests and welfare of rural electric cooperatives in New
York State.
Member systems include Delaware County Electric
Cooperative, Inc.; Oneida-Madison
Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Otsego Electric Cooperative, Inc. and
Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. Through NYSRECA,
these rural electric
cooperatives work with governmental agencies and other organizations to promote
the growth and development of New York’s rural electric cooperatives and the
welfare of the more than 16,000 customers they serve.
New York's four rural electric cooperatives were created in 1941 to provide
central station electric service in areas not served by private companies. Each co-op is
a not-for-profit electric utility owned by the customers it serves
and governed by a board of directors elected by the co-op membership. The board
of directors of NYSRECA consists of delegates nominated by the rural electric cooperatives. Each
member's board of directors elects one voting delegate and one delegate at
large to serve on the NYSRECA board of directors.
NYSRECA has served the state's four main rural electric cooperatives since 1982,
representing them before the public, legislative and regulatory bodies and other
organizations. Through a long-term partnership with the
New York Power Authority, the nation's largest
non-federal public power company, these
co-ops provide economic, dependable service to their customers.
