NYPA frequently makes market purchases of a variety of products to use in service to our customers.  The range of products includes:

  • Unforced Capacity (UCAP), in NYISO Zone J (New York City) and Rest-Of-State
  • Energy supplies – as financial swaps (Contracts for Differences) and physical bi-lateral agreements
  • Energy supplies or credits/attributes from qualified renewable sources

Current and Upcoming Solicitations

NEW NYPA is seeking proposals for the installation of 100MW of solar power throughout New York State. NYPA will purchase the energy for a period of up to 20 years through issuance of a Power Purchase Agreement to the successful bidder. NEW NYPA, on behalf of its electric customer, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is working closely with Orange County, is soliciting proposals for the purchase of environmental attributes from newly constructed renewable energy generation projects.  Only proposals from new generation facilities (not yet in commercial operation) will be considered.  Projects must be compatible with the Port Authority’s Sustainability Policy objectives and demonstrate contributions to the economic development of the Orange County geographic area.  Renewable energy projects may include: solar, wind, landfill gas, waste-to-energy, and others. NYPA is soliciting proposals for the development of utility scale (120 MW to 500 MW) wind generating projects (“Projects”) in New York State waters of Lake Erie and/or Lake Ontario. The Projects would interconnect with the transmission facilities of the Authority, National Grid (“NG”), New York State Electric & Gas (“NYSEG”) and/or Rochester Gas and Electric (“RGE”). For purposes of this RFP, the transmission facilities of the Authority, NG, NYSEG and RGE are jointly referred to herein as “NYISO Transmission System”.
